Yakup is a music teacher who left Turkey during a period of political unrest and now lives a long way from his wife and daughter.

Gazelle follows what he does to bring his family back together across that distance.

The screening will be followed by a live Q&A with co-director and lead actor Nadir Sarıbacak.

The conversation will explore the personal story behind the film, the psychological impact of displacement, and the experience of rebuilding a life in a new country. It will open up a broader discussion around identity, belonging, and the realities of migration.

The conversation will be held in English.


About the Film
Shot on location in New York and New Jersey, Gazelle draws from lived experience and favors an intimate, naturalistic approach to storytelling.

Co-directed by Nadir Sarıbacak and Samy Pioneer. Written by Ayhan Hulagu and Nadir Sarıbacak.

The film premiered at the Vancouver International Film Festival, where it received the VIFF Vanguard Audience Award, and has since screened at the Chicago International Film Festival, Dances With Films New York (Industry Choice Award), Sedona International Film Festival, and the Aegean Film Festival, where it had its European premiere.
